Hi everyone! I was so happy to get an email today from Stein in Norway with the message: “I visited Moscow many years ago, and played chess with a little girl sitting on the streetside. I think the little girl was you. You won easy. I send you a picture of the girl. It was you, yes?” – Yes it was!! I think it was late 1991 or early 1992, when I was only 7 or 8 years old, and I was practicing and earning some pocket money playing people in Moscow. So nice to see that great photo of me. You can see an album of photos of me from that period here. So an enormous thanks goes to Stein in Oslo, you made my day!

A new magazine is born in Italy! Scacchi, Pugilato, Qualcos’altro e Rugby (SPQ&R) is a magazine that puts together some sports that are not mainstream in Italy (chess, boxing, rugby and chessboxing). It wants to popularise these by offering enough pages of each sport to have a varied readership that can get to know the other sports. The magazine looks at each sport from a multiplicity of angles: exclusive interviews and reports, articles about the history and artistic side of the sports and plenty of interdisciplinary articles such as: chess and travel, chess and art, rugby and pugilism, chess and martial arts, boxing and cinema and so on. Chess Queen™ Alexandra Kosteniuk is featured on the cover of this new magazine and comments one of her games. You can download the whole first issue for free here.

Today we’d like to present a couple photos taken both in Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia) in 2004 and in 2012. They show the Russian chess champions Alexandra Kosteniuk and the sisters Nadezhda and Tatiana Kosintseva. The first photo was taken in 2004 during the Russian Superfinal (news). The last one was taken last week during the 2012 Grand Prix (news). In between these 8 years, all three ladies have won countless titles and awards, all three won at least once the Russian championship, and they are now all full GM’s. Both Alexandra and Tatiana have been European champions, and Alexandra has been the 12th women’s world chess champion 2008-2010. Together all three girls have won many team competitions (2010 Olympiads, 2007-2009-2011 European Team Championships). A great combination of competition and friendship! Best wishes to all of them for the continuation of their careers!

Hello everybody,
In this wonderful pre-Christmas period, I’d like to wish you all great holidays! If you have a moment free, try to play some chess! I’d like to thank you, my fans, here on my site, on Twitter, on Facebook, on YouTube, for supporting me all year long, I could not play chess without your support! I hope that 2012 will be a great chess year for all of you. Play some nice chess, train with Chess King, and most important, share the love of chess around you!
With chess and love, Alexandra 🙂
