Kosteniuk speaks at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum

Hi everybody!

I’m at the 1st St. Petersburg Youth Economic Forum right now, which is part of the larger yearly St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

I’m the member of a working group on how to build better cities of the future, and tomorrow will be giving a talk about it (and I will use chess analogies!). Today, we had the visit of President Medvedev, and tomorrow the presentations will be to high government officials and Forum participants, with goal to involve youth into decision-making in Russia and to form leaders of the future.

This is a summary of the event, as published on RIA Novosti:

The first International Youth Economic Forum will open in Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg on June 15, uniting some 200 young businessmen from different states.

The organizers of the forum said the young businessmen, age between 18 and 30, will be mainly discussing new ways of developing international business relations under current economic conditions.

The other aim of the forum, the organizers added, is to involve the youth in the social, economic and political life of their countries and to determine future leaders.

The youth forum precedes the 14th International Economic Forum (PIEF) in St. Petersburg, which runs between June 17 and 19.

The slogan of this-year forum is “Laying the foundation for the future” and discussion will focus on the problems faced by emerging economies.

Some 600 journalists applied for this event’s accreditation and organizers say over 1,000 hotel rooms were reserved for the eminent politicians and businessmen expected to attend the event.

Here’s a photo of me in the “President’s Library” where some of the meetings are held. Read more about today’s events.

I will also be present at the Economic Forum, there is a special chess club set up right in the middle of the main Forum area, lots of important people always pass by for a quick game (I was also present in previous years), and that helps to get support for our favorite game!

I’ve been playing chess for a while. I seriously hate the end part of chess. It uses a lot of brain power and effort to calculate the moves at the end 🙂
